A. Tsoi: In Kazakhstan tuberculosis morbidity decreased in 1,6 times for six years

Vice Minister of healthcare and social development of the RK Aleksei Tsoi told about it today at the regional meeting titled "Migration and tuberculosis: cross-border control of tuberculosis in the countries of Central Asia" held in Astana. Leading experts of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia and Uzbekistan, and also representatives of the ministries and departments in health sector and migration, the World Health Organization (WHO), International Organization For Migration, the national Antituberculous centers and NGOs took part in the event.

 "Within the framework of implementing the State program "Salamatty Kazakhstan" we achieved considerable success in decrease of the population morbidity and mortality from tuberculosis, for  six years tuberculosis morbidity in the country decreased by 1,6 times, mortality - in 2,6 times", - the Vice Minister of healthcare and social development of the RK Aleksey Tsoi emphasized.

Vice Minister also reported that according to various expert evaluations, Kazakhstan annually receives from 300-500 thousand to 1 million labor migrants, from them 15% have infectious diseases, including tuberculosis and HIV. No more than one of each 10 revealed are deported home. Other migrants are heavy burdensome on healthcare system of the country. About the third of the  migrants' flow falls on Almaty and Astana.

According to data of the press service, in conformity to the minimum package for cross-border control and treatment of tuberculosis in the European region of WHO (The consensus statement in Volfheze, 2012) measures for rendering antituberculous care to migrants are taken in the republic. In particular, expansion of access and improvement of quality of diagnostics and treatment of tuberculosis and tuberculosis with multiple and wide medicinal stability among migrants is provided. This work is carried out together with the international non-governmental humanitarian organization "Project HOPE" within a grant of Global fund for fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

In Kazakhstan the Integrated plan on fight against tuberculosis for 2014-2020 is implemented. It includes measures aimed at improvement of services in prevention and treatment of tuberculosis among migrants and initiation of regional dialogue by holding the high level meetings. The program implemented by "Project HOPE" in partnership with WHO, International Organization for migration and the International federation of the Red cross and Red crescent societies is implemented in seven regions of the country with the highest concentration of labor migrants.

Within the framework of meeting for two days in the working groups and at plenary sessions the plan of action (road map) which will become the working tool for the next 12 months will be discussed.

Let us remind, in Kazakhstan "Project HOPE" began implementation of the program for fight against tuberculosis in 1993 and since then it participates in implementation of various projects on tuberculosis control.
