Today the international conference "Rehabilitation technologies and innovations of social adaptation and integration of persons with disabilities" devoted to the International Day of persons with disabilities was held in Astana.
The Vice Minister of healthcare and social development of the RK Svetlana Zhakupova, UNDP representatives in Kazakhstan, representatives of the concerned government bodies, international organizations and NGO took part in the event.
Goal of conference is the experience exchange, analysis of new tendencies, improvement of legislation and development of joint recommendations on issues concerning protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.
In her welcome speech Svetlana Zhakupova noted that ratification of the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities by Kazakhstan will promote improvement of life quality of the persons with disabilities. For this purpose the Government of the RK adopted implemented stage-by-stage Plan of measures aimed at ensuring the rights and improvement of life quality of persons with disabilities for 2012 - 2018. One of the main areas of this plan consists in increase of efficiency of rehabilitation and special social services.
In the course of conference representatives of MHSD RK presented the system of social support reported to the persons with disabilities in the RK.
Within the framework of event the section meetings were held with participation of experts, manufacturers and suppliers of technical assistive (compensatory) rehabilitation devices to consider the following subjects: improvement of standards and implementation of new production technologies in prosthetics and hearing aid; providing the persons with disabilities with technical rehabilitation devices and relevant services; creation of accessible environment.
Participants of the conference paid special attention to the issues concerning adaptation of infrastructure facilities for persons with disabilities, and also shared experience on development of inclusive education, employment of persons with disability, improvement of their life quality.
As it was reported earlier, in current year Kazakhstan has ratified the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and undertook liabilities on implementation of international standards in relation to persons with disabilities.
Ratification of the Convention will provide additional guarantees for exercising and protection of the constitutional rights and freedoms to 627 thousand persons with disabilities living in the republic and their families.
