First pediatricians trained in medical universities of Kazakhstan on new programs will graduate this summer. And very soon, 144 specialists will be available for work.
As it was previously reported, since 2007 a new training system for physicians of all specialties is introduced in Kazakhstan including pediatricians. New programs specify a general 5-year training for all physicians, further specialization in key clinical specialties during internship (internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology) and mandatory residency for all specific specialties, including pediatrics.
These modifications target to enhance the quality of health care personnel training. When it concerns the training for pediatricians, the new standards specify the number of hours allocated for such trainings as twice as much, approximately (from 4914 hours as per the State educational standards of 2003 to 8520 hours as per the State educational standards of 2007).
At present, supply of pediatric services in the country makes 3.6 per 10 thousand persons, which is twice as much as the parameters adopted in European Union countries.
