Today in Shymkent took place public hearings for the theme "Introduction of an opioid substitution therapy for HIV prevention in Kazakhstan", they are organized by SF "Aman-saulyk" in partnership with the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the RK and Republican center for prevention and struggle with AIDS.
In the event took part the heads of healthcare administrations, departments of education, center of region for prevention and struggle with AIDS, drug clinic, law enforcement agencies (Management on struggle against drug business of DIA and the Department of criminal executive system), deputies of maslikhats, representatives of the NGO, drug-dependent patients and their relatives.
The participants of public hearings discussed issues of the dissemination of HIV infection among the addicts and introduction of an opioid substitution therapy (further OST) in Kazakhstan.
The opioid substitution therapy is an innovative approach to drug addiction treatment allowing to reduce risk of the dissemination of HIV/AIDS among group of risk. Nowadays OST applies in 71 countries of the world and in European union countries OST receive more than 600 thousand patients.
"The dissemination of HIV infection and the drug addiction is problem of all the society. President of SF "Aman-saulyk" Bakhyt Tumenova said, that "The public hearings are directed at provision of reliable information about the opioid substitution therapy for persons taking injection drugs (further PTID) and their relatives, as well as at medical officers and whole population".
Soon it is planned to conduct the public hearings on issues of supportive treatment of drug consumers for purposes of infection HIV prevention and reduction of level of drug addiction among PTID in Kazakhstan in Almaty, Aktau and Atyrau cities.
We will remind you, in 2008 implementation of pilot projects by OST with use of methadone began in Kazakhstan and in the framework of implementation of the State program "Salamatty Kazakhstan" the OST program was expanded for 2011-2015 in a pilot regime with coverage of 10 cities of the country.
In the framework of project "Prospects of OST development in the Republic of Kazakhstan" in 2015 SF "Aman saulyk" in partnership with the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the RK supported by United Nations Offices conducted public hearings under the OST program in 10 cities where the pilot project is being implemented on Drugs and Crime.
The results of regional public hearings that took place were discussed at the conference which took place in Astana on December 11, 2015 where the recommendations were adopted on introduction of OST in Kazakhstan which aimed at the state organizations of Kazakhstan.
