Issues of migration and protection of refugees in Central Asia discussed in Astana

Today in Astana took place «round table» on topic «Social-economic an implication of migration: vulnerability of migrants and the necessaries of integration in Central Asia», organized by the Analysis center of the First President Library of RK together with Subregional coordination office of the International Organization for Migration (further IOM) in Central Asia and Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the RK in the framework of Almaty process for protection of refugees and international migration.

In the event took part Vice-minister of Healthcare and social development of RK Birzhan Nurymbetov, the Regional coordinator of IOM for Central Asia Deyan Keserovich, the secretary of the Human Rights Commission of President of RK Tastemir Abishev, the representatives of the state organizations of RK and the countries of Central Asia in sphere of migration policy, the representatives of international and non-governmental organizations.

The objective of meeting is a sharing of experience, new trend analysis, a revelation of deficiencies in migration legislation and development of joint recommendations of countries of Central Asia in sphere of labor migration.

Special attention in the course of «round table» was given to protection of migrant's rights and their integration in the society for receipt of positive economic effect for countries of their origin and residence, as well as to need of strengthening of cooperation in struggle against trade in people.

Every seventh in the world person, according to IOM's data, is a migrant, including international 214 million migrants, and 740 million internal migrants. By 2040 increase of migrants' number of the international ones up to 400 million people is projected. In accordance with statistics of the International Labor Organization illegal incomes received from trade in people more than 150 bln. US dollars a year. Around 21 million people were prone to forced labor.

Vice-minister of Healthcare and social development of the RK Birzhan Nurymbetov in his speech noted, that in connection with world economic crisis, as well as with consideration of new geopolitical trends the migrant and refugee problems required serious discussion.

"Today interstate cooperation in sphere of labor migration must be strengthened, border control must be improved, work must be undertaken on integration of migrants in the society and effective laws in migration sphere must be developed with consideration for international norms," said Birzhan Nurymbetov.

In conclusion of meeting the participants agreed to continue the multilateral cooperation aimed at resolution of problems, not regulated migration, trade in people and protection of migrant's rights in Central Asia.

We will remind you, that Almaty process is a permanent dialogue ground, initiated by Kazakhstan in 2011. Its goal lies in joint solution of refugee and international migration problems in regional format, as well as in global prospect. Kazakhstan was chosen by the first chairman of the Almaty process. Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan are the permanent participants of Almaty process besides our republic. Iran and Pakistan have the observer status.
