Today results of the First contest among printed and electronic medium journalists for the best and veracious coverage of topical issues of development of opioid substitution therapy (further - OST) into RK for prevention of HIV/AIDS and reduction of level of drug addiction among injection drug users are summed up in Astana.
This contest was organized by the public fund "Aman-saulyk" in partnership with Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the RK (further MHSD RK) with support by UN Office on drugs and crime in Kazakhstan (further UNODC).
The contest was held on 4 nominations: the best coverage of the topic OST in republican printed papers; the best coverage of the topic OST in regional printed papers; the best coverage of the topic OST on TV and radio channels; the best coverage of the topic OST in internet editions.
In total to the contest came 46 journalist papers that were published, mass media went on air in the period from April to December 2015. Special commission where the representatives of MHSD RK, the UNODC, the NGO and the public men belonged dealt with consideration and assessment of materials.
The works of five journalists were recognized by winners in the following nominations:
1. Vera Lyakhovskaya ("Free speech" newspaper: «Methadone: behind or against») - the best coverage of the topic OST in republican printed papers;
2. Dinara Kinderbayeva ("Priuralye" newspaper: "There is no way to drug addiction! The methadone treatment is myths and reality») - the Best coverage of the topic OST in regional printed papers;
3. Ainagul Bakimbayeva (Internet site "Altaynews.kz" "Is methodone therapy benefit?", "Myth and fact about methodone", "What kind of benefits have with treatment of methodone") - The best coverage of the topic OST in internet editions;
4. Aziz Yeshmetova (the "Kazakhstan – Taraz" TV channel: "Salauatty omir salty") and Meiramgul Nygmetova ("Shalkar", "Kazakh" radio: "Therapy of replacing opioid") - the Best coverage of the topic OST on T and radio channels.
The winners of the contest received money prizes in the amount of 80 thousand tenge. And Meiramgul Nygmetova also won the Grand Prix and study trip to Austria.
We will remind you, in 2008 implementation of pilot projects by OST with use of methadone began in Kazakhstan and in the framework of implementation of the State program "Salamatty Kazakhstan" for 2011-2015 the OST program was expanded in pilot regime with coverage of 10 cities of the country.
In the framework of the project "Prospect of development of OST in the Republic of Kazakhstan" in 2015 of SF "Aman saulyk" in partnership with the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the RK at support the United Nations Offices on Drugs and Crime conducted public hearings under the OST program in 10 cities where the pilot project is being realized.
The results of regional public hearings were discussed at the conference, took place in Astana on December 11, 2015 where adopted recommendations on introduction of OST in Kazakhstan, which aimed at the state organs of the RK.
