During the years of independence the death rate from diseases of the circulatory system (further - DCS) in Kazakhstan has decreased 1.9 times (from 361 per 100 thousand population in 1991 to 193,8 in 2015).
In the framework of the Program of development of cardiological and cardiosurgical care in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2007-2009 successfully implemented effective methods of prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and medical rehabilitation of patients and invalids with DCS, resolved the issues of preparation and qualification improvement of specialists in cardiac surgery profile. Created a regional cardiac surgery centers in Astana, Almaty and Pavlodar, based on the West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov State Medical University. Opened a cardiac surgery Department at the base of oblast (city) hospitals.
Work on the development and improvement of cardiology and cardiac surgery services continued in the framework of the State program of healthcare development of the RK "Salamatty Kazakhstan" for 2011-2015. Created 40 stroke centers, which also helped to reduce mortality from DCS. By 2020 it is planned to open another 28 stroke centers.
The number of cardiac surgeries increased from 838 in 2005 to 30 thousand 249 in 2015 (including conducted more than 10 thousand operations on open-heart surgeries and 20 thousand interventional surgical procedures).
