A month for the prevention of ARVI, influenza and pneumococcal disease began in Kazakhstan www.zakon.kz from 26 September 2016

From 26 September to 26 October of the current year in Kazakhstan held a month for the prevention of acute respiratory viral infections, influenza and pneumococcal disease, according to Zakon.kz.

Acute respiratory viral infection (ARVI) is the most widespread group of diseases, combining influenza, parainfluenza, respiratory syncytial infection, rhinovirus and adenovirus infections and other catarrhal inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.

The most dynamic infection that causes annual epidemics and periodic pandemics with a much more severe disease is influenza. Usually transmitted by airborne droplets, the characteristic symptoms are sudden onset of fever, myalgia, headache and severe malaise, non-productive cough, sore throat and rhinitis.

The flu is mild and without complications, but in some cases it can lead to development of severe forms of the disease, especially the elderly, pregnant women, infants, and individuals with comorbidity. Vaccination against seasonal influenza is safe and most effective way to prevent infection and possible severe consequences of the disease.

The who recommends vaccination against influenza for pregnant women, children 6 months to 5 years, persons with chronic diseases, health care workers and the elderly. It is important to know that vaccination must be obtained prior to the beginning of the epidemiological season. Note that Kazakhstan planned and epidemic environment vaccination of the population belongs to preventive measures and included in the guaranteed volume of free medical care.

According to experts, among healthy adults, influenza vaccination can prevent the flu by 70-90%. Among the elderly, the vaccine reduces the number of severe illnesses and complications by 60% and deaths by 80%.

It is necessary to use a protective face mask, frequently washing or processing of hands with disinfectant solutions, ventilate the room, do wet cleaning, limit contact with the sick person. All this helps to prevent infection with influenza, SARS, and pneumococcal infection.

Important components of protecting the body is balanced and rich in vitamins food, drinking enough water, proper rest, active lifestyle, avoiding harmful habits that reduce the body's resistance to any, including infectious diseases.
