The Minister of labor and social protection of population of Kazakhstan Tamara Duissenova held a meeting with the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities Catalina Devandas Aguilar.
During the meeting the sides discussed issues of observance and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Minister noted that in 2015 Kazakhstan ratified the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and has made commitments to implement international standards concerning persons with disabilities. Since the signing of the Convention, the Government of Kazakhstan has taken concrete measures to improve the situation of persons with disabilities. Particular attention was paid to such issues as creating a barrier-free environment, employment of persons with disabilities and develop inclusive education.
One of the main topics of discussion was the question of availability of social assistance programmes for persons with disabilities. Discussed disability-social benefits provided to persons with disabilities services personal assistants, provision of technical auxiliary (compensatory) means of rehabilitation, modernization of the social services system.
Tamara Duissenova has invited the UN Special Rapporteur on the fifth anniversary Exhibition of best social projects of NGO, held annually by the Ministry and regular meeting of the coordination Council in the field of social protection of persons with disabilities.
"Much has been made over this period. But even more we need to do in order to remove all obstacles that prevent persons with disabilities to fully participate in society and lead an independent life", - said the head of the MLSPP RK.
The UN special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities thanked the Minister for the information provided and noted the significant progress made by the Government of Kazakhstan in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities at the national level.
Visiting the territorial Department of the Committee of labor, social protection and migration, Ms. K.Devandas-Agilar reviewed the procedure for conducting medical-social examination. The special Rapporteur has expressed interest to provide social assistance to the disabled in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as information system "Centralized data Bank of persons with disabilities".
According to the results of the official visit of the UN special Rapporteur, proposals and recommendations reflected in the report because Devandas Agilar, which she will present to the UN Council on human rights.
Recall that the initial report on the measures taken by Kazakhstan to implement the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities was submitted to the UN Committee on the rights of persons with disabilities.
